The current building was begun in 1746, but the work took over a century to complete. The church is extensive and high with a bell tower integrated in the façade. The façade is completely covered with polychrome tiles laid in 1960 from the Aleluia factory with figurative themes of biblical origin. The interior, also covered with polychrome tiles, has a ceiling covered with exotic wood, donated in the mid-twentieth century by the Oliveira Lopes family. The stained glass windows, designed in Madrid and from the 1960´s, were donated by the Commander António Augusto da Silva.
