Museu Marítimo De Ílhavo (Ílhavo Maritime Museum)

The Ílhavo Maritime Museum is a memory place of the Ílhavenses (people from Ílhavo), of their role in Portugal's opening to the world. The museum was born in 1937 and resides since October 2001 in a modern and attractive building. Three beautiful permanent exhibitions can be visited: Sala Capitão Francisco Marques room, dedicated to the line cod fishery; Sala da Ria room, testimony of agro-maritime chores of Aveiro's lagoon; Sala dos Mares room, where a rich set of ancient vessels in miniature, fishing tools and other artifacts are displayed. A collection of thousands of shells, collected all over the world, complete the museum exhibitions. An aquarium, where you can observe codfish exemplars making contact with a high number of live specimens, is the latest attraction of this museum.
